One of the Fastest Growing Grocery Stores.

As of December 2010, Hy-Vee operates 207 supermarkets, 24 drugstores, 1 heartland pantry, and 17 clinic pharmacies in eight states.[2] Over 100 of its supermarkets are located in Iowa, with additional stores in IllinoisKansasMinnesota,MissouriNebraskaSouth Dakota and now Madison, Wisconsin. They also operate 26 Hy-Vee Drugstores (formerly branded as DrugTown) in Iowa and Nebraska. Hy-Vee also operates liquor stores under the names Regal Liquors and Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits.
Most Hy-Vee stores are full-service supermarkets with bakeriesdelicatessensbanksfloristspharmacies, and coffee shops (Caribou Coffee and Starbucks). To keep pace with Wal-Mart's recent expansion into the gas station business, Hy-Vee has also added gas stations with convenience stores to some of its properties. Customers are often given a discount of several cents per gallon of gas when their grocery receipt is shown, the discount can often run between three cents a gallon, to as much as sixteen cents a gallon, depending on the day.
Hy-Vee is known for its longtime advertising slogan"Where there's a helpful smile in every aisle". When the jingle became a full song in the '90's, the music was written by Annie Meacham and James Poulsen. The slogan was adopted for Hy-Vee's first television commercial in 1962.
Two-time National Football League MVP, three-time Super Bowl player Kurt Warner once stocked shelves at a Hy-Vee store in Cedar FallsIowa. After being cut by the Green Bay Packers at age 24, he thought his football career might be over and worked there to cover bills.
Hy-Vee's largest store is located in Sioux FallsSouth Dakota, which has over 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2) of retail space in the store.
The company's name is a combination of the last names of the two founders, Charles Hyde, and David Vredenburg (Take the first two letters of Hyde's name, the V from Vredenburg, and add a double E to the end, and you have the company name Hy-Vee).
